Cedar Ceiling continues

2nd weekend of installing den's cathedral cedar ceiling continues. Today went much faster than last weekend, as we're starting to figure this stuff out. Carpentering ain't easy, but with time we're getting there. Photos show; 1) ceiling above the beams (~15 ft up), 2) Steve on the 12'ft ladder, 3) Jackie cutting & 4) gluing the cedar planks. I've still got all my fingers :)

Upstairs paint

Painters started inside the house this week. Upstairs is nearly complete. Staircase walls are Sherwin Williams 'Accessible Beige". Back guest bedroom is 'Lemon Meringue' and front bedroom is 'Outerbanks'.

Concrete decks

A beautiful late summer day offered the perfect opportunity to pour the river front deck and entry porch. John leveled it up after the pour. Meanwhile Ricky Blair (on ladder) and Ricky Phillips (on ground) started the exterior trim work on the dining bump out. Things are really starting to look good. We'll choose the cabinets for kitchen, den & bedrooms on Monday, that's a biggee to get behind us !

Trim & Paint continues

John Morris's team continues to make great progress in the house. This past week they spent most of their time finishing trim work on two tray ceilings & completed bead-board trim in guest bed, powder room and entry bench area. Trimmers have also completed most of the closets in the house. Closet details are one of John's signatures in his custom houses. He really does a great job maximizing storage space. Cleto's framing team returned to install the columns and railing on the riverside decks. And late on Friday afternoon the entry door was delivered and installed. The house is pretty well buttoned up now from the elements. This week the team will finish interior trim work, start prime & paint on walls, and start laying tiles in the master bath shower.

No pix to post today :(
We spent most of the weekend doing an 'owner project' on the house. Steve & I made 'a deal' with John and identified a few construction tasks that we could complete to save costs. This weekend we began work installing a cedar-plank cathedral ceiling in the den. Learning curve was rough on Saturday, but we improved dramatically today. Should take us just a day or two more and we'll have it complete. It will really look good, and will be nice to gaze up at it and fondly remember all the 'fun' we had installing it, ha!

Power dig

Last Thursday the team from R.G. Mattingly (sub'd by SMECO) arrived to lay power lines to the new house. They dug a hole under the road to connect to the power line across the street, and then trenched a line to the new house. We had them trench a line to the 'old' house as well, so all lines will be underground. We're ready to power up !
